I was first introduced to The Haven in Crete about 4 years ago. As a family we visit the same part of Crete each year. We befriended a Scottish lady who lives on the Island and it was she who told us all about Gaynor.
Gaynor is an English lady who has lived on the Island of Crete for many, many years now. And the Haven started quite simply by her taking in stray or injured animals. Today her whole house and garden is taken up with rescued animals. Some of them who have been very badly injured, and some, which have just been taken in as strays. I have witnessed lots of kittens, which have just been abandoned at a terribly young age. But for the work and dedication of Gaynor, they would never have survived.
I was so overwhelmed by the scale of her commitment for the animals. There seemed not to be a square inch of her house given over to some convalescing animal. Finding the money to support such work is never easy and the vet’s bills still need to be paid.
Please take time to look at her website. I have included a few photos, which I took while visiting last summer.
